Technical Recession.

What is a technical recession? From the top of my head, its a negative growth over at least 2 quarters. Singapore is officially in one.

Which would you prefer? Almost everyone having jobs but commodity prices inflated, or a high degree of unemployment with lower commodity prices? Neither is ideal. This contrast of events is being mirrored in Singapore, with oil prices and other items skyrocketing while the economy was booming and unemployment was at its lowest a year ago with now, oil prices retreating and unemployment projected to increase due to the current financial crisis.

My plans could be derailed. The turnover rate in the force drops whenever the economy is going pear shaped, since it guarantees employment. So my chances of joining gets smaller and smaller every single day. No matter how outstanding a candidate is, as long as there is a headcount freeze, its almost impossible to get in.

But im lucky, i still have NS to fall back on. All those that have their studies or NS ahead of them are protected. What im afraid of are those who will be joining the workforce next quarter onwards. With indications that this crisis will last a year, or more, they might find it hard to secure jobs, be it full or part time, or even temporarily. Alhamdullilah Ain already got a job, and a secure one at that.

God works in mysterious ways. I will do whatever i can to secure my job. If its fated for me to join, i will join. If not, i'll treat NS as a retreat for me to wait out the financial storm and hopefully the outlook will be much better when i ORD.

I'd love to be your fiance, I want to. I love you.
